Chief State Release New Single + Music Video “No Brakes” 10 October 2025

Chief State have returned with a brand-new single “No Brakes”, a high-octane anthem born from one of the band’s scariest road experiences.

Frontman Fraser Simpson recalls the real-life inspiration:

"Summer 2022 we were sailing down the interstate heading from Houston, Texas, to Austin when all of a sudden the worst thing happened - no brakes. I was driving at the time and so to not create panic, I didn't mention our predicament to the rest of the guys until I managed to grind the van to a halt with what brake fluid we had left. What happened next was a week of being stranded in Austin (s/o Rare Bloom for letting us crash) while we waited for an out of stock part to arrive to fix our van. The mechanic then said our vehicle was so rusted he wouldn't advise driving 50 yards down the street, we cancelled shows, we ran out of money, we considered flying home. The poignant lyric "Nothing ever goes our way" repeats throughout the song because honestly, nothing has ever gone our way. But here we are, back again, doing the thing we love because we're young and dumb and would like another excuse to get in a van and tour the continent. To quote another line from the song: "Nothing like a little bit of latent fear, of dying young and dumb without my loved ones near" - sign us up!"

“No Brakes” was produced, engineered, and mixed by Tim Creviston (Spiritbox, Youth Fountain) and mastered by Stu McKillop (Midnight Peg, By A Thread) at Rain City Recorders, capturing the band’s signature mix of urgency, grit, and bittersweet honesty. Over the years, they’ve released acclaimed records, toured extensively across North America and beyond, and carved out a loyal global fanbase. With “No Brakes,” Chief State prove once again that they’re at the forefront of modern pop-punk—louder, sharper, and hungrier than ever.

Mutant League Records Signs Atlanta Pop Punk Band Sweet Time 10 July 2025

Mutant League Records is proud to announce the signing of Atlanta-based Asian-American pop punk trio Sweet Time, with their debut full-length album "where do we go from here" set for release on August 15th. The band’s first single “FST” is out today, accompanied by a brand-new music video streaming now on all platforms.

Formed by longtime friends Arvin Alaigh, Dan Clifford, and Will Hsiung, Sweet Time brings a fresh voice to the genre—one informed by identity, friendship, and a mutual love for fast riffs and nostalgic hooks. The band’s debut album where do we go from here was written and recorded over the course of two years while guitarist Alaigh completed his Ph.D. at Cambridge. The result is a lo-fi, heart-forward collection that captures three unique perspectives on coming-of-age, personal isolation, and emotional resilience.

where do we go from here explores the fractured road into adulthood—tracking love, loss, alienation, and the small hopes we cling to when everything feels uncertain. With nods to '90s skate punk, shoegaze, emo, and early 2000s Warped Tour staples, Sweet Time finds balance between sonic chaos and emotional clarity. The album is a patchwork of each member’s story—worn proudly, like a band tee you refuse to throw away.

Pre-orders for where do we go from here are available now at mutantleaguerecords.com, featuring limited lathe-cut vinyl, exclusive merch bundles, and more.

Directed by Alex Zarek.

Vocalist Alex Huffman says: “We’re extremely excited to be working with Mutant League—we’ve wanted to find the right partner that understands both where we are as a band and as people, and in the past, that has often proven difficult. They are a breath of fresh air and believe in our music and our ethics and I am so excited for this chapter. It’s a blessing to be rejoined by Michael, who is an original member of Sea of Treachery and to see him work with Christian to record these songs. We’re also thrilled to have Ricky Armellino, Adam Reed, and Andreas Magnusson helping us with the mixing and mastering. It’s a dream scenario for us.”

Guitarist Christian McManama adds, “Being signed is obviously a hugely impactful thing for all of us, and being sought out by a label like Mutant League that believes in both our vision and music truly makes the achievement even richer for each of us. For me personally, it’s ushered in a new, much awaited chapter in life. A short statement can’t possibly capture how excited I am to be able to bring new music into existence, and to help finally breathe new life into Sea of Treachery as the first metal band signed to Mutant League Records. Since words alone won’t suffice, I aim to put all of that energy and passion into the new music. This is only the beginning.”

The band says: “'What's Past is Prologue' is about embracing our struggles, learning from our mistakes, and forging ahead with unwavering determination. The lyrics discuss mental health issues that can make even the most mundane tasks seem like triumphs, but emphasize that the true goal is to break free from the cycles of depression and anxiety to confront struggle head-on. This song is a cathartic and personal release for us, and we hope it resonates with our fans on a similar level, empowering them to overcome their own challenges.”
